Anyway, I've had a great day today. I went to Japan Town in San Francisco. The last time I went there, I was pretty young, and I don't remember it like this. Woo. For a beginner anime fan like me, this place is HEAVEN.
We walked around for a while, with me pointing out names on signs ("Denizu (certain fast food restaurant)," "Posuto Street (ha Post Street ok)," "karaoke baa/kurabu (yeah good ok)"). Then we went into a shopping mall, where I was drawn into the movie store. I tell you, there must've been thousands of anime titles. It may not sound that amazing to someone who's been in one of these stores before, but... uh... I haven't.
I chuckled to myself, thinking silly thoughts like the possibility of this store carrying the extra-rare in USA movie, Memories (the one I've been trying to get off the net for $140), and when I shyly asked the clerk if he'd ever heard of it, HE HANDED ME A COPY.
HOLY CRAP.
And best of all, it was only $20. It was VHS, not DVD, but what the hell - I'll settle for that. Wowow.
Later, we went to a book store which just opened (Me: "Look, Mom! It says 'hon!' I can read 'book' in Japanese!" Mom: "Good job. *buys me the Japanese version of the FFIX Art Collection which really kicks ass despite odd translations*")
Then, we introduced Aggie(sic) (our Polish exchange student) to Ghirardelli Square, home of Ghirardelli chocolate. We had some "Chicago-style" (a.k.a. GOOD) pizza, and then a sundae at the Ghirardelli Ice Cream Store.
Well, that was my day in SF. Did it not kick ass?
I watched Memories for a bit, but decided to save the rest for later because the glare on the TV in my dad's room is unbearable. But from what I've seen, Memories is really good. Not as smoothly animated as I had seen in its Magnetic Rose music video, but that's because the music video was in fast motion. I've actually got something to show now for Anime Club next year!
